It also says that this is for Connected TVs, so internet connection required!

Which is going to be a problem on a 9000 series box.

The DTG claim they test all of the receivers they have been given and I suspect they have a 9300T.

My guess is that they tested the codecs that were in use when the box was launched and later broadcasters began to use the problematic codec. Humax have always been very quiet about this problem which leads me to suspect they knew from fairly early on it couldn’t be easily fixed. As far as I know none of the other Humax models suffer from this problem.

Hopefully that will resolve the problems I’ve been having.

    Fingers crossed.

Is it possible to copy a recording off the FVP5000T so it can be played on a PC?

Yes. Either plug in a USB memory stick or USB hard drive and copy it to the drive or see this FAQ https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/file-transfer

    HI,

Borrowed the lead from a friend. It looks like this one

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/232938151523?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=232938151523&targetid=594652062920&device=c&adtype=pla&googleloc=1006765&poi=&campaignid=1700604133&adgroupid=68042089162&rlsatarget=pla-594652062920&abcId=1140496&merchantid=109866676&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0OrD5seY4wIVy7vtCh3cWwAxEAQYBCABEgLpCvD_BwE

which doesn’t have a separate lead to the power connector only the large databus connector.

The clue is in the description; it says it is for 2.5″ drives. What you want is something like this Link to ebay which has an external 12V supply and will work with both 2.5″ and 3.5″ drives.

As I mentioned at the start, when the drive was mounted in The Humax I could hear it running, yet when it is sitting on the bench connected via the USB to SATA lead I hear or feel nothing when I type the DOS commands. I would have at least expected to hear or feel it spinning.

Sorry missed that and yes you should definitely be able to feel it spinning. Does the USB to SATA lead have a 12V output? A lot of them are designed for 2.5″ drives and SSDs which only need 5V.

Is it worth trying one of these “promise the earth” data recovery companies?

Depends how important the programmes are to you; they certainly won’t be cheap and I would be a bit surprised if they have much expertise in the proprietary Humax file system.

Our Humax HD-Fox T2 will cut short on some recordings and if we have recorded programmes back to back it as continued on to the beginning of the next programme being recorded, very frustrating !!!

Are you adding padding to start and finish times of programmes (Menu button>Settings>Preferences>Recording)? In my experience thinks work best with padding off.

Just don’t initialise/format it with windows, or it’s asta la vista with your files.

No it isn’t; it damages the partition table but it can be repaired.

    humaxcheck version 0.1W (c) xyz321

Writes to the Humax disk are disabled

    Partition table: Permission denied

I assume you ran it with administrative privileges? It would need xyz321 to tell us exactly what that message implies. I would be tempted to use CrystalDiskInfo to see if you can retrieve the SMART data which would give us a clearer idea of the state of the hard drive. As you appear to be at a dead end the last thing to try would be humaxcheck 1: -p -w

Sorry, Yes, when I go into Disk Management there is a Disk 0 which covers the C: drive, a recovery partition and a (Disk 0 partition 1). There is a Disk 1 identified as Removable but No Media.

So Windows can at least identify there is a hard drive attached and the drive number is 1. You might see if humaxcheck sees anything.

When I connect the drive to the USB port Windows Device Manager shows ASMT 2115 USB Device under disk drives.

But do you see anything in Disk Management?

Is it the thunderstorm, or is it that the Humax doesn’t like to have more than 500GB recorded?

Plenty of people have drives bigger than 500GB and more than half full. Based on what you have said, I guess there is some minor corruption to the partition table or the file system which it should be possible to fix either with the custom firmware or by using a Linux Live CD.

Martin Liddle you say “Running as an administrator isn’t enough; you need to run with administrative privileges;” I started the command prompt by right clicking and selecting Run as Admin… is that not enough?

What you have done is correct. When you plug the caddy into the computer do you see the drive in Disk Management?

Perhaps the folder containing humaxrw is not on the system path.

enter ‘Path’ in the DOS window to see what it is set to.

You could also change the current folder to the one containing the file first (CD command).

I don’t think that is the issue in this case.

I opened the DOS window as an administrator and tried humaxrw 1: -l to humaxrw 9: -l and all I get is No such file or directory.

Running as an administrator isn’t enough; you need to run with administrative privileges; what version of Windows are you using? Of course another possibility is that the drive is really broken (but that is relatively unusual).
