Only last week I reformatted a 3TB HDD to ex-fat and moved over 2TB of videos to my iMac. No issues whatsoever and the drive can be seen either by MacOS or Windows.
But can it be read and written to by an HDR-2000T?

I wonder if the transmitted signal has become more complex requiring more CPU to decode it, leaving less CPU to drive the user interface.
I think that is very unlikely.

It’s with a mate of mine who’s going to reformat in ext3, I’ll get it back on weds. I’ll let you know then. Cris.
Sounds like a good plan to me.

@Trev and Martin. Thanks for getting back to me. This is the 2TB HDD I bought. It’s similar to the 2TB WD HDD I have formatted to FAT32 that works, only it’s a lot thinner (about half the thickness), they both are only powered through the USB, no external power line.
Western Digital seem to be very coy about the power consumption. IF (pure speculation) what is inside is WD Blue PC Mobile hard drive then the specification sheet lists the maximum current requirement as 1A (=-10%) which is more than the Humax can supply but the average power requirement for read/write 1.7W (0.34A) which would be OK. As they market it as USB2.0 compatible I guess it will typically work with a PC but I am not as optimistic as Trev about it definitely working on the Humax. If you can hear or feel it spin up then it is probably suitable and we need to understand what else is causing the problem.

All three tuners were 100% for both strength and quality.
I don’t understand why the signal strength is so different to the HDRFOX2 which seems unaffected.
Expressing signal strength as a percentage is a completely arbitrary scale which you can only compare with another FVP. A number of people with signal strength at a 100% on an FVP have benefited from fitting a variable attenuator into the aerial feed to the box and adjusting it to give a signal strength around 80% or if you have an amplifier in the aerial cabling turning down the gain. A Suitable item might be Link to ebay .

Yesterday I watched the tennis live on BBC1 HD. Picture was good for a couple of hours then I started to receive the “no signal or too weak message” every few minutes.
Signal tests confirm
HDR FOX2 – 85%
PVR5000T – 100%
Which box were you watching the tennis on? Are the figures you have quoted signal strength or signal quality? If the figures are signal strength then your signal strength may be too high and you might want to experiment with a variable attenuator to reduce the signal strength to about 80%; alternatively it may be due to prevailing atmospheric conditions.

Hi Luke, well, I bought a 2TB WD HDD and it was already formatted in NTFS, however, when plugged into the Humax, nothing appeared. I plugged it into my Macbook and I could see/read it but (as expected) not write to it. It’s using a USB3 connection which should be back compatible to USB2.
Does it have an external power supply? Does the documentation that came with it say how much power it requires?
I can’t find any reference to which flavour of USB the humax USB port is
The Humax has USB2 ports but as you say USB3 should work but will be only provide the 500mA specified by the USB2 standard rather than the 0.9A of a normal USB3 port.

I have manually retuned to the Redruth transmitter.
Please can you explain what you mean by “manually retuned”. The manual tuning FAQ is at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1

I bought a Humax FVP-500GB in December. It’s been fine – an occasional minor quirk (just with one programme, oddly) with the green button ‘watch from the beginning’ function.
However in the last few days it’s just absent altogether. I press the green button – and absolutely nothing happens.
Please give us an example of a programme where the green button doesn’t work? Does the iPlayer app work?

bought a brand new fvp 5000t in jan, since last week the picture constantly freezes comes up no siganal had a brand new aerial fitted a few months ago so the signal is fine,,at the moment the only way I can watch my tv is by passing the box and putting aerial in tv,any advise would be fab
The first thing to tell us is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax (Freeview button>Settings>Channel settings>Signal test)

Can I convert them to another format so I can transfer them to DVD for example?
Yes, but not something where I have any expertise. Perhaps start a new thread about the conversion.

Then I discovered that by pressing and holding the menu button under the little flap and then pressing the standby key and keeping them pressed the unit would not go back into standby but I was presented with an option to format the HDD, which I did.
Very odd; no idea what is going on. I take it the remote batteries are OK?
How do I get the .hre files onto the HDD?
I simply don’t know. There have been several reports of people being unable to restore programmes to a 9150T/9300T but these have been balanced by a few success reports; I have never owned either box but it did work for me on a 9200T. Does anybody else have any ideas? I haven’t heard anything from xyz321 who is the most likely to know.

I deleted the epg cache in the old drive and then ran all the repair options from humaxcheck. Returned the old drive to the humax, switched every thing on. Old drive started up and everything was as before the start of this tale i.e. everything was working; TV worked, channels there, recordings there (although I didn’t check any). Switched everything off and back on and it was back to the beginning of this tale. The humax hard drive would spin up, you could hear the head seeking a track but then the unit would switch into standby mode and no amount of switching OFF and ON would get it out of standby mode.
Oh dear. I am not sure using humax check to correct the errors was a great idea but I can understand why you did it.
Because the Humax won’t switch out of standby mode I can’t reformat it when mounted in the Humax.
Try formatting the new drive in Windows or use a disk wipe utility and see if the Humax will then offer to format the drive on startup.
BTW when I installed the drives in the Humax I didn’t bolt them in, I just laid them in the enclosure. I also used an anti-static wrist strap.
I think we would all do that; you just need to very careful not to touch the power supply; several people have given themselves a shock and destroyed the power supply by becoming casual about safety.

so if I buy that software, if I understand correctly, It’ll allow me to use my mac to transfer files from my FAT32 HDD to the new NTFS HDD?
Yes
At the checkout for that Paragon software, there’s a “recommended extension” of an “installation disc”, what do you reckon that is and why is it recommended?
I don’t know for certain but what it usually means is that they will send you a physical copy of the software (CD or memory stick) in case you lose the original download.

The only setting available is a signal test which really doesn’t help and the other three are greyed out. Anyone have any ideas please?
Was the box recording or about to record when you saw the greyed out menu items? If so this is normal, simply wait until all recordings have stopped. If not recording but still seeing greyed out menus then the box is in an odd state; put it into standby, wait until the hard drive stops spinning and turn off the power for 10 seconds, then turn on the power again and see if you can now access the greyed out menus.
