until I can replace the machine (after lockdown).
Your problem is going to be to decide what to buy as none of the available options are entirely free of problems.

You might find this a handy source of information:
https://www.freeview.co.uk/help/coverage-checker/detailed-view/anglia
I would suggest the link I posted earlier in this thread https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management is better as it gives a recommendation for each specific property (although I wouldn’t always accept its recommendation).

It is connected to router via a homeplug adaptor (also tried changing that to no avail).
Have you tried changing the network cables from Homeplug to router and Humax?

Your experience of AR is completely different to mine. It never seems to work properly on the channels of interest to me. I’ve also lost count of the times I’ve missed start/end of programmes on BBC/ITV/4/5.
AR works well for me; it isn’t perfect and the implementation on the FVP-5000T is worse than the HDR-FOX T2, but (ignoring the hiccup when the BBC were commissioning a new playout system last year), it is rare to lose starts or ends of programmes on BBC/ITV. I do use manual tuning to make sure the PVR is tuned to a set of multiplexes from a single transmitter but other than that I don’t think I am doing anything unusual.

In February I retuned using the SMART option because of transmitter channel changes. Yesterday I discovered missing channels and some duplicated on the same prog number (eg Prog14 showing against both Film4 and More4 – with no programme info in the guide).
That strikes me as an interesting observation. There are repeated complaints here about missing information in the guide; could this be the cause? My understanding is what the tuning process is doing is making entries in a database. Clearly it shouldn’t be possible to have two entries for the same channel but it seems entirely possible that a flaw in the software might allow it to happen.
This morning I did an auto tune without the SMART option. I then observed no HD channels from COM4 and no channels from COM 7 or COM 8. A manual tune for Ch33 (COM4 – Sandy transmitter) showed no signal until I changed the modulation to DVB-T2 – then the missing HD channels were discovered. The same procedure worked eventually for COM 7 (Ch55) and COM 8 (Ch56) but I had to try DVB-T and DVB-T2 alternatives to get a signal. So not obvious!!
The manual tuning FAQ (note the first link in the FAQ is out of date and should now be https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management); this gives you the information to decide on whether to set Transmission to DVB-T or DVB-T2 for a particular frequency.
I don’t understand why the auto tune didn’t find the missing multiplexes… unless I am also getting a signal from another transmitter (Sudbury toward the rear of the aerial) and when I select my local region (Cambs and Beds) the Sudbury channels are removed.
Auto tuning has been a challenge for Humax since accurate recording was introduced. It is a bit better now but still frequently creates problems and I find it simpler to manually tune.

If you get your network connection to work, the best way to watch programmes (SD) on your 2000T set up would be to run the DLNA server on the 5000T and use the 2000T DLNA client function view them. Without fiddling with USB sticks etc. That approach works on my HD FOX T2 (but only SD). (always assuming the 5000T is network connected too)
Agreed. It is precisely what I suggested in post #24.

1 How much would it cost to add wifi to the 2000T?
This is a suitable dongle for £12 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Wireless-WiFi-Adapter-For-Humax-TV-Boxes-HD-NANO-iCord-HDR-1000s-HD-FOX/293129733049? Cheaper options are avaialable from China if you are prepared to wait. Alternatively a suitable pair of Powerline adapters such as https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5742734 are about £25 and usually easier to configure.
2 The manual mentions a Samba Server (whatever that is) & also FTP Server to copy from the 5000T to a PC.
It is described as a Samba Server (a method of sharing files between devices using Linux (like the Humax) and Windows) but it doesn’t really function like a normal Samba server. If you have a Windows PC using Windows 8 or Windows 10 then it provides a simple way to download decrypted recordings to a PC that could be copied wherever you like.

Just to confirm, if I format the drive, it wipes everything and I lose them forever?
Correct.
But will be ok going forward?
Impossible to say for definite. I think you stand a reasonable chance that it will be OK but only looking at the SMART data for the hard drive would allow a proper estimate. My advice is to try it and if the same problem occurs in the next few months then the hard drive is on its way out.
Please advise what Humax Rex is and is it difficult once the drive is connected to the PC?
humaxrw.exe is a Windows (or Linux) program that runs on a PC and it has facilities to copy recordings that have disappeared from view to the PC and then back to the Humax when the drive has been formatted. It is very difficult to give a good opinion on whether it is difficult because I don’t know your level of expertise. It is certainly not point and click. If you are happy to try with a command line program I will dig out a link to previously posted instructions.

I had a number of recordings and suddenly can no longer see them in the recorded program section, just a blank screen. However, there seems to be a second page behind the blank screen but I cannot access it. The old recordings may be on this second page?
This is a well known problem with the 9xxx boxes. The file system has become corrupt. It is feasible to recover most of the recordings using humaxrw but it involves taking the hard drive out of the Humax and connecting it to a PC. The only real fix is to format the drive from the HDD Control option in the Record menu.

I can’t play HD content either way.
I can play encrypted HD content from an HDR-FOX T2 on an FVP-5000T but not the other way round.

Several months ago problems in tuning and in HD started on my FoxTR. Firstly, my TV started coming up “Incompatible signal” from the Humax box, whereafter it tuned to the signal but only in SD, not HD. there is no problem with the TV (a Pioneer KRL46V) receiving HD from a chromecast, so that is not the issue, and the signal strength is OK (strength 75% quality 100%).
have you tried using different VFormat settings on the Humax?
I also have some pixelation, despite that signal strength, which do not occur with my TV.
Can you describe the nature of the pixellation?

Had an FVP4000T for about 4 years, mostly good, but recordings from ITV (SD) often fail.
Do you get an error message for the failed recordings?

I have my Humaxes connected through a network switch to form a LAN with the computer. DLNA works reasonably well both ways.
I assume you can’t play HD content from the FVP on the HDR but for the SD content that the OP uses I would guess it would be a lot less hassle than copying to USB. Do you recollect which chipsets in the USB WiFi adapter will work?

I don’t think that I have wifi on the HDR2000T. I suppose that this is what I would need.
There is nowhere in that room to hardwire it either.
You can buy a USB WiFi adapter for the HDR-2000T or you could use a pair of Powerline or Homeplug adapters.

ParticipantThinking about this problem again (play SD content from an FVP-5000T on an HDR-2000), the obvious solution assuming both boxes have network connections is to to use the DLNA server on the FVP.
