This might be a silly question but: the ones from the recovery mode are simply numbered such as “recover_0001.ts”, so would it be sensible, or is there any need, to right-click and select “Rename” and put in the correct programme title before transferring them back to the Humax drive? Would the new info carry across?

I suggest you read this very comprehensive description of the process for putting files back before you start renaming https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/restoring-recordings-and-list-to-humax-pvr-9200t

What is the extension of the video files? .mpg2, .m2ts, .ts.

Downloaded from a 9150T they will be unencrypted .ts files.

They don’t seem playable on the computer

What software are you using to try and play them? They certainly ought to be playable with something like vlc.

I have experienced very poor picture / sound quality on ITV and Channel 4.

This suggests the box is not correctly tuned. You might try an Automatic Channel Search (Red F button)> Settings> Channel Settings> Automatic Channel Search). Make sure to select the Default option rather than SMART. It will delete your schedule of future recordings so you might want to take photos of the schedule first). If that doesn’t improve things then try a manual channel search using the instructions at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1 but note the URL in step 1 is out of date; use https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management

When I put the HDD back in again and power up will the box carry on the deletion process? If so how can I stop it?

I can’t be sure as this is an unusual situation but my best guess is that it won’t delete anything else. Please let us know what does happen.

The last time I looked the box reckons there is only one recording. How can I get it to re-discover the recordings?

I think there is a good chance that they will reappear when you boot the box up.

Also I can’t play the recordings on my PC using Media Player and VLC. I presume the files are encrypted?

Correct both SD and HD recordings are encrypted.

I am upgrading my HD TV to a 4K TV. Can I use the HDR 1100S as a USB HDD if I connect it to the TV’s USB port for recording purposes?

No. Just buy a USB hard drive.

That says: “No such file or directory”.

    Try:

    /home/owner/Downloads/Humaxrw/humaxrw -h

This Humax box has been pretty much on constantly, recording and used daily for over 2.5 years now. The WD red 2TB drive has been flawless (touch wood it remains that way) and I am so pleased I did this upgrade.

    Thanks that is interesting.

The only slight niggle with the 4000 is that the picture quality isn’t fantastic (but that doesn’t really matter)

Picture quality here is good; have you experimented with different Resolution settings (I use 1080p) and checked that the TV isn’t doing any image processing on the input from the HDMI port used by the Humax?

I went into settings then installation then manual search and selected and the channel showing was 48 so I selected 41 then went back to TV and the problem was still there so when I went back to manual search it had gone back to number 48.I tried another TV station where the channel was 42 and again same thing happened.

You will probably find the channels from 41 with numbers above 800 in the guide. You really need to do a manual tune using the instructions I posted previously.

I have a Humax box model number HDR-1800T and tonight I was going to use it to watch the TV but when I tried to watch BBC 1 the picture kept breaking up and the same on BBC 2.I checked on my TV and BBC 1 and 2 are broadcast on channel 41 and when I checked on the Humax it was receiving channel 48 so I changed it to 41 went back to watch the programme

How did you change it to 41? I suggest you do a manual tune on the Humax using the instructions at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/transmitters#post-2336

What the BBC started to do a few months ago for Radio 4, or perhaps were experimenting with, were supplying EIT p/f times that were likely to be more accurate than using the neat looking times of the 7 day schedule. A few of the times were to the half minute, which is why I first noticed that something different than usual was happening.

Thank you for a very clear and comprehensive explanation. The FVP is significantly worse than the HDR-FOX T2 in situations where the guide is being updated due to a previous programme overrunning. Could this be because the FVP doesn’t check the updated EIT p/f data frequently enough?

Instead of a live feed of adjustments to the EIT p/f (which is what the AR code in PVRs work off) they appear to be using predictive times.

Please forgive my ignorance but could you explain “predictive times”.

Any recommendations for the same/ similar functioning machine?

If you don’t need the catchup players an HDR-1800T or HDR-2000T might be a reasonable choice. A few quirks but nothing too serious. If you want the catchup players then a Humax FVP-5000T is the only Humax option. Be warned this is a marmite PVR; some people love it, some people hate it. The FVP has a full range of catchup players but currently there are problems with both the ITV and My5 players and Humax seem to be in no hurry to fix the problems. Also the user interface is completely different, slower to respond than earlier boxes and behaves rather inconsistently. It is reasonably reliable at recording and will record up to 4 channels at once. I use one because it handles sub-titles impeccably (on the earlier boxes they can get wildly out of synch) and it doesn’t suffer with an odd HDMI issue causing momentary losses of sound when an HDR-FOX T2 is connected to my LG TV.

There are also Freeview PVRs from Manhattan but I have no personal experience and the Panasonics that Biggles has mentioned.

I keep meaning to change the setting on the 2000T to AR and leave the 5000T padded to see how things are. I need a round tuit.

If when you turn on AR again it still isn’t working properly then a reset to default settings might help. BlackHole over on hummy.tv was always adamant over several years that AR didn’t work whenever he tried it until some incident that reset the box and then it started working properly for him.
