The Seagate drive appeared to fail, worked sometimes and not others, now gone completely. Replaced it with a WD 1Tb drive. Are they directly interchangeable? Neither drive, Seagate or WD seems to spin up.

Are you aware that there is a known problem with the motherboard in this box which can cause it to lose connectivity with the hard drive?

Given up with the dongle. Sent it back. It would work for a few minutes, then the sound would go, & the video was jerky. It would recover, then fail a few minutes later, & this got more frequent.

I watch the 5000 through the Samsung TV now. Much prefer to use the Humax controller, but we can’t have everything.

Have you considered Powerline adapters eg https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5742734 ? Very easy to use; plug one in near the router and connect to router with the network cable provided; plug the other in near the Humax and connect the cable to the network port on the Humax. Job done.

That shows green and 99% for all Ridge Hill channels including COM7 & 8 HD.

(… and the Humax box is showing 100 signal strength for all the channels it is getting)

100% signal strength can be too high and overloading the tuners. If you have an amplifier in the system then try removing it or temporarily bypassing it. Is the aerial pointing in the right direction for Ridge Hill and does it have the correct polarisation (elements horizontal or vertical)?

I thought this model had a rf modulator built in.

OK I confess I don’t know what a Humax-f2-fox t is. Please can you confirm that is the model you have. I was assuming you had either an HD-FOX T2 or an HDR-FOX T2 neither of which have a modulator; the aerial out just passes the input aerial feed through to the TV.

Can anyone help, i have a Philips GR1AX space helmet tv will the Humax f2-fox t work without scart lead ie just aerial? i’m just getting no or poor signal error. Many

I assume the Philips TV doesn’t have a SCART input? If so you would need to add a modulator attached to the component output sockets on the Humax.

This is probably of no help but on the FVP models under General settings>Video there are 4 settings:

    Screen ratio

    Display format

    Resolution

    SD Output

The last setting (SD output) controls whether output is supplied to the component video sockets. SD output off means no signal to component video. Maybe there is a similar setting on your box?

It seems to have sorted itself now. Can access each other to play recordings.

As a matter of interest, does that include HD content?

    Any views on Humax PVR9300T?

The 9300 doesn’t allow copy to USB and does not have network connectivity so it doesn’t appear to come remotely close to your criteria. If you want a Humax box with good network connectivity and have ruled out the FVP boxes then a second hand HDR-FOX T2 with the custom firmware would be the most likely way forward. Pop over to hummy.tv to read about what the custom firmware (which runs alongside the standard firmware rather than replacing it) adds to the functionality.

    Cracked it!

Short USB lead, wooden cradle on top of a mini camera tripod, on top of the 2000, pointing down towards the router location.

Have to initially switch the 5000 on so that the other machine recognises it, then it can be switched off.

Excellent, well done. Slightly surprised you need to switch on the FVP; at the time you tested was it within the range of start and end time for the server to be active?

    Not yet.

Your choice; it is likely to fix the specific problem you mentioned.

How will re tuning change the abysmal performance of the apps ITV Hub and All4?

It won’t and as this is a problem affecting all FVP owners there is very little you can do other than hassle Humax about it.

It will be a very strong wifi signal. Only about 10m from the router.

The HDR2000 only has one USB port, at the front rhside.

I thought the HDR-2000T had two USB ports (which is what the manual shows); the rear one below the Ethernet socket. Unfortunately our HDR-2000T is eighty miles away so I can’t check until after lockdown. The only other thing that might help is using a short USB cable with a male connector at one end and female at the other so that you try changing the orientation of the dongle.

I thought that I had my wi-fi problem sorted when I got a list of my recorded 5000 programs on the 2000. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t play. Very halting, no continuous sound, then frozen for a few minutes.

How strong is the WiFi signal at the HDR-2000T? Have you tried plugging the dongle into the other USB port (one front undera aflap, one rear)?

For some reason, I have lost all volume from the 2000

Have you checked that the volume on the Humax HDR-2000T remote is set at maximum? How is it connected to the TV (HDMI or SCART)?

, but I went ahead & set the 5000 network server up.

    Good.

On the 2000, there was no mention of network. I had removed the dongle then inserted it again previously. Maybe I have to set it up every it is inserted?

Anyway, when I touched the 2000 I got an electric shock! Didn’t get a shock the second time that I touched it though.

What part of the Humax did you touch to get a shock? Have a look under WiFi settings with the dongle plugged in. Try using BBC iPlayer if that works then the Humax is connected to the Internet.

On the Samsung TV (that is connected to the 2000) however, it shows the 5000 & I was able to play a program that I recorded last night.

Good does that mean there is no need to go via the HDR-2000T?

Dongle just arrived today.(ordered it the same day as suggested!)

Now, how do I transmit programs from the 5000 to the 2000? ( I have configured WLAN on the 5000, & configured wi-fi on the 2000.

On the FVP: Red F button, Settings> Advanced settings> Server management Turn on the Network server and set a range of times of day when you might want to access recordings.

On the HDR-2000: Media button> Blue button (labelled storage)> Select Network> Select the FVP> Select recordings and away you go. The next time you go into Media if you want to play something from the hard drive on the HDR-2000T you will need to press blue button again and select HDD.

I can’t see any mention of 2000T DLNA client function anywhere.

In my HDR-2000T manual it is on page 32 in the Media List section.

I have re tuned using the default. No change to the quality of ITV Channel 4 etc.

So have you tried the manual tune procedure?
