I made some enquires with Manhattan who very swiftly replied (take note Humax) about any future plans for a box with an additional tuner. There current position is as follows:
We have no plans for a model with a 3rd tuner or a 2TB drive option. We use Western Digital AV-class Hard Drives with a 1 million hour MTBF and there are no such 2TB drives available. The Toshiba drives other companies use are much poorer and rated at only 600,000 hours.
Good to see that you got a sensible answer to your questions. 600,000 hours is 68 years of continuous use which seems adequate.
The T3-R can record programmes on two channels simultaneously while you watch one of these channels, a recording or use an app (iPlayer, YouTube etc) at the same time.
So currently it isn’t as functional as a Humax PVR but they have plans to improve it which sounds encouraging. Certainly a product to keep an eye on.

Often repeated factoid?
Can you show me a source please?
No. Suggest you Google factoid. Martin. ;

Sigh. A factoid is something that becomes treated as fact by repetition. What I was asking was for you to point me at a previous statement that the FVP software was developed by a third party. I don’t remember seeing the statement before but my memory gets ever more unreliable and I only read PVR related stuff from a limited number of sources.

I’ve downloaded the instructions for updating the Phillips.
Perhaps you could try the first two instructions (which just involve using the remote control) and tell us the software version number so that we can see whether you actually need to update.

Thanks, I’ve gone into menu/Settings/Preferences/Recording:- There is no place to set the “Padding” to Auto, so I’ve set them to off, is this correct?
This means that Accurate Recording will be used. It will catch programmes that start up to 15 minutes earlier than scheduled or programmes that start up to 30 minutes late.
But on reading the Users Manual, page 33 it states “You can set padding time in case the recording starts earlier or ends later”
So I’m slightly confused.Perhaps you can help/clarify.
Neither strategy is prefect. Accurate Recording relies on the broadcasters signalling the start and end of the programme (technically I think it monitors the change in the running status). In the early days of Accurate Recording the some channels were not very reliable in sending the signals. My view is that the major channels are reasonably reliable these days (but not infallible). Minor channels can still be problematic. You can choose which strategy you use. I suspect the majority use Accurate Recording which certainly works well for me.
In this specific case it appears that the broadcast was over 30 minutes early than scheduled, so is there any way the Humax would identify this start time?
No. Later running programmes are much commoner than early so the implementation gives more leeway for late running.

Looked up the transmitter – coverage is 99% for S and M for BBCA D3&4 BBCB HD, for SDN it is 56 and 84, for ARQA it’s 57 and 84, for ARQB it’s 61 and 82 and as for the COMs I don’t really watch anything on those so they don’t matter (it’s 14&63 and 12&60)).
OK I think it should be Ok with the booster in.
I will have trouble with doing anything with the Phillips because of its age and origin and I don’t have any idea how to update TV software anyway.
The instructions for updating the Philips (which include how to check what the current software versions is) are at https://www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/2/26pfl3606h_12/26pfl3606h_12_fin_eng.pdf?_ga=2.63336106.408881037.1591785072-1469935554.1591785072 Essentially they are download a zip file from Philips web site, extract the software update from the zip, copy to a USB memory stick, switch off the Philips, plug the USB stick into the TV and turn on the TV. None of that strikes me as impossibly difficult but if that is how it seems to you then maybe you could get a friend to help.
If the LG proves that the sound problem is the Phillips then I’ll have to get a new TV. I’ve been aware that my aerial, cable, TV, etc are all rather old but I didn’t really want to spend lots of money all at the same time just because my YouView box died.
I don’t think your problem has anything to do with the aerial and cabling and there may be a fix for the Philips.

ParticipantHave you checked the network connection on the TV that doesn’t work and the FVP?

Just found out that that the booster is on the aerial and the box in the room is the power supply. So can’t bypass the booster. The aerial is pointing at Sutton Coldfield transmitter. Probably will need to keep a booster because of where I live.
Have you looked at the Freeview coverage checker at https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management If you input your postcode and house number then what are the lowest numbers from the S and M columns for Sutton Coldfield transmitter in the “Now” row.

ParticipantDid a bit of research on the Philips TV. The software update notes for it say for version TPM82E_2.06 “Intermittent sound lost when you connect an external device via HDMI” which sounds like your problem. Can you check the software version it is using? You can download a software update for the TV from https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/26PFL3606H_12/3000-series-lcd-tv-with-digital-crystal-clear/support

Unplugging then restarting did not work. Should I have had it running first?
Sorry had what running first?

Yes, that is set at 10am to 23.30, Network server ON.
But what does it say under Status?
It was working OK until I paused it to make a cup of tea. A few minutes later, I heard the tv. (in pause, there is no sound)
Have you tried the age old fix of putting the FVP into standby and when the disk stops spinning, turning off the power for 10 seconds and then seeing if the problem is fixed when you power it up?

Posts on Hummy TV reveal the decryption key is formed from the serial number and MAC address.
That was true for the HDR-FOX T2 but isn’t true for the HDR-2000T so I wouldn’t be confident that it will work on an HDR-1100S but perhaps worth trying.
I have a 2TB in my 1000S. Not sure if a larger than 2TB will work
It depends on whether the partioning scheme is MBR or GPT. If it is MBR then the limit will be 2TB, if GPT then potentially much larger.

Any idea what will restore the FVP5000 icon to the Samsung TV?
Have you checked the server status (under server management in advanced settings) on the FVP?

I’m using the fvp4000t and have all the same problems mentioned. But recently YouTube is hanging on the login screen too.
For me things have improved quite a lot recently. ITV Hub now works OK although slower than iPlayer and All Four is now working but slower again than ITV Hub. In both cases the players were very, very slow to load the first time; I wonder if they are doing a silent software update when the player is first used after a software update for that player becomes available.

Looks like a screw on F connector or F plug but the outer ring is exactly the same size as the outer ring on the back of the box so it won’t push in. The middle wire is solid – does that make it a male connector?
If the diameter is the same as the input socket on the Humax then I would guess it is a female IEC plug ( think I would call it Belling socket). A short length of aerial cable with male IEC plugs would enable you to do what you want. However I suggest you look at your second option first.
Is the PVR compatible with LG TV? I’ve got one of those and could try use it a as test. If I switch TVs will I need to do any re-tune or resets?
If the Humax is setup correctly then you shouldn’t need to do anything other than connect the TV. I don’t recollect any reports of problems with the combination of an FVP and a recent LG TV. I suggest you try this test first and report back,
