For some reason, it feels like this box is not picking up the new channel allocations from the More4 and Film4????
Note that I have even done a factory reset on this box.
When you retune are you using the Smart option? If so try with Default instead.

ParticipantAs far as I know the DTR-T2000 doesn’t support a USB dongle; presumably a decision from Youview. A reasonably cheap device that will function as a wireless bridge is a TP-Link WR-802N https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/3g-usb-adapter/tl-wr802n/ You would need to configure it in client mode.

Absolutely but limited to what you can watch when two recordings are in progress, unlike even my old Humax 9200.
Can I clarify; was that comment aimed at the Manhattan (I believe it is currently true but the version 2 software due in a few months will allegedly improve the situation) or the Panasonic?

The second one came with an RM-LO8, which Humax replaced, then I had to buy another. That has now dysfunctioning microswitches.
I agree that RM-L08 is not the best remote that Humax have produced. A couple of keys on mine are requiring multiple presses to function. When I have time I will look into the possibility of opening it and seeing if cleaning will help.
Any advice on replacement recorders ?
There have been some encouraging reports about the Manhattan T3-R but it seems to me that the software is still a bit immature but they do seem to be issuing regular updates. There is a major software update in the works which will fix some of the limitations compared to a Humax but it is several months away. The Panasonic PVRs are reckoned to be pretty reliable.

Because the Humax operating system was open source and unencrypted,
To be clear the HDR-FOX T2 uses open source components but the main executable is very definitely not open source. the same applies to the FVP models.
Two different techniques have been used to obtain unencrypted video files.
a. Foxsat. Nowster developed a patch that somehow prevented the OS encrypting stuff after it has been installed.
b. Others (sorry can’t credit as I don’t know who) found what was being used as the encryption key and developed a system within the CF for retrospectively decrypting the files.
The FVP provides unencrypted SD recordings out of the box (by transfer to a DMS server on a PC).

I suppose it could be an early model – how could I tell? There’s no sign of a serial number anywhere, or was the design changed subtly?
When did you buy your FVP? I didn’t have one of the early RM-L08 remotes so I don’t know whether there are distinguishing features.
Martin Liddle
Participantpigolato – 6 hours ago The original remotes had a seemingly random response to button presses – I have to watch the LED on the remote to see if it has accepted the command – then wait two seconds to see if the box responds!/cite>
There was a known problem with the early RM-L08 remotes that lead to Humax replacing them on request with an improved version (free of charge); could yours have been one of the early ones?

I have tried to format the drive in my FVP-4000T.
Goes through the “are you sure” etc, asks for my pin, which I enter.
Box then goes ‘Processing’ for about 15 seconds then come up with a message,
It sounds to me that the file system has probably become read only after a corruption. Providing the hard drive is OK it could probably be restored to health by attaching it to a computer running a Linux based operating system other wise Pigolato’s idea of formatting it (or wiping it) on a Windows PC is sensible.

On top of that the catch up players are pretty much useless.
Have you tried the catch up players recently? You have to be very patient (several minutes) if you haven’t used ITV Hub or All4 for a while (my guess is that the app is silently updating itself with very little indication of anything happening) and then the first time used the performance is dreadful but subsequently it becomes acceptable.
I haven’t noticed my FVP-5000T getting any slower; you could try a reset to default to see if that helps.

No sound outages last night – I think you’ve cracked it!
Excellent.

I can’t help but wonder why no-one has managed to write a custom firmware for these?
I think the reasons are that firstly Humax appear to have made it more difficult to get access to the operating system and they have encrypted some of the sidecar files. This makes it significantly more difficult to create custom firmware. I guess it wouldn’t be impossible but the people with the skills perhaps have other things they want to do in their lives.

I’d looked back through this post and took your advice a little too literally and just changed one number… to something other than the routers DNS address!
As you found that will just mean that nothing will be able to access the Internet.
It does seem to me though that someone who knows what they’re doing, and I’d hope that the boffins at Humax know what they’re doing, would be able to fix this issue. To me, it seems like it could be a small fix to sort out what is a fundamental feature of the box.
But is the problem on the Humax or your router? I certainly don’t suffer from this problem. As a matter of interest what router are you using?

Release version TPM82E 2.04
PQ version: Flash PQ v0.25 110829
OK that IS a version that could suffer from the “Intermittent sound lost when you connect an external device via HDMI” problem so it would be worth attempting to upgrade. It may or may not help with the problem you actually have but it will at least remove a potential cause.

Does anyone know what CPU and Memory/Cache are fitted to the 4000T and 5000T models (the same I believe) and has anyone ever looked at the possibility of an upgrade?
I would say the chance of an upgrade is zero. The Humax PVRs use special chipsets designed for PVR applications.

I tried changing the DNS address on the Humax to something other than the router… really not sure if what I did was right because it wouldn’t connect to the network at all!
What exactly did you put in? The DNS address must point at a DNS server. Suitable addresses would be 208.67.222.222 or 8.8.8.8 but lots of other possibilities.
