Not sure if the 5000t did this and would correctly restart from the moment you exited.
Yes it does; It brings up a dialog allowing you to choose to continue watching from the point previously reached or from the beginning.

It’s surprising how much the signal can be attenuated before any drop in performance.
I am currently running at 70/100 but can manually adjust down to 50% quality (35% strength if I recall) and still have a perfect picture with no dropouts.
I agree, although I do wonder if it may depend on how clear the path is between you and the transmitter. Before DSO I operated for several years with a signal strength of about 30% but 100% quality because I have line of sight to a low power transmitter.

When the boxes are non responsive I can access the epg and highlight the programme I wish to record but when I press the ok button there is no response.
Thanks, I very occasionally see a slightly different problem when setting a recording where it will simply display the rotating disk icon signifying it is processing the request but never does. Your problem sounds different.
The box also refuses to respond to the red record now button. All other functions continue as normal. The blue led shows even when the box is on standby and the disc can be felt and heard spinning.
I assume Humax have suggested a reset to default settings? I don’t suppose you have auto on or off timers set do you? These are known to cause similar problems on earlier Humax models. Another possibility for the box not going fully to sleep could be corrupt recordings.
Signal strength is about 90% on BBC 1 80% Channel 5 without using the attenuation and I have reduced the strength to about 65% which maintains 100% quality and reduces the frequency of the problem occuring.
Exactly what I would have done.

Both boxes frequently refuse to accept new recording instructions although other functions live tv, playback, recording existing schedules continue.
Please could you explain exactly what happens or doesn’t when you have a failed attempt to set a recording?
I am within sight of Crystal Palace transmitters. I have replaced my loft aerial and have experimented with variable attenuaters which has improved the time that the box functions correctly.
What is the current signal strength and quality reported by the Humax?

What an odd thing to code into it!
I wouldn’t be surprised if it is part of the Freeview Play specification.

I was looking at getting the Aura in the next week or so but am now intrigued by the HDHomerun quatro setup with plex. Anyone have or have had both and got any advice?
There is some discussion about the HDHomerun over at hummy.tv in the DIY PVR section https://hummy.tv/forum/forums/diy-pvr-building.55/

Don’t have double shielded cables however apart from the cable inside the wall all coax was replaced with new rg6. what I do have is a variable attenuator and I will attach to reduce the siganal. what sort of signal strength am I aiming for here? I thought that 79-85% would have been low enough.
My advice is usually to get the maximum signal strength below 80% but the best thing to do is experiment.
Once i’ve done that if there is no improvement I will look at replacing the cables.
Have you checked that the aerial and the HDMI are well separated. I have to confess our HDR-2000T began to display these symptoms after a new carpet was fitted and it took me a while to realise that the carpet fitters had managed to tangle up my carefully separated cables. Separating them fixed the problem.

I have put the original hdd
( by original, I mean ,the hdd that came with the foxsat)
into the foxsat and can use telnet to access it. the hard drive is working fine and recording but the fix-disk will not work on that drive either. all im getting is disk not found.
I am not an expert on the Foxsat. On the HDR-FOX T2 you have to go into maintenance mode before running fix-disk; are you doing that?
There is a thread over at https://www.avforums.com/threads/media-file-server-bundle-for-the-foxsat-hdr-release-4-part-6.2024876/page-18 where fix-disk has been mentioned in the ;last month; perhaps you would do better to ask there. If you do find a solution please come back and tell us.

Signal strenth is 79-85% and quality is rock solid at 100%.
The signal strength isn’t outrageously high but it could be worth trying a variable attenuator in the aerial feed to the Humax to get the signal down a few percent. The other common cause of picture disturbances is if the aerial cable and HDMI cable are in close proximity; best practice is to keep them as far apart as possible and gold standard is to use proper double shielded cables.

if the 1800T worked before with the sony, my logic is that it was tuned fine, and the hdmni is simply ‘carrying’ the digital signal to the TV. I dont get why a new TV would report a low signal
My first thought is to carefully check the aerial cable leading into the Humax in case it got knocked whilst installing the new TV.

I have put back in the drive that I was having a problem with.
It’s a western digital 1TB WD10EVDS.
You might try the other drive just to check that fix-disk is working.

No joy. Telnet just repeats what I’ve typed and then not found.
Which of the two drives you have described earlier in thread are you currently using?

the maximum file size for NTFS is larger than the size of any existing HDD.
The maximum file size for NTFS depends on the cluster size; with 4KB clusters the maximum file size is 16TB; with 2048KB clusters it is 8 petabytes (8000 TB).
